Ostrich Eggs

We have this amazing ostrich egg at home. It’s hard. It’s old. We are praying that it won’t break open thinking that the dead stuff inside might be kind of rotten-smelling. The man who gave it to Oscar said that he makes one scrambled egg out of ostrich eggs for a couple of people. He said that his wife has used them in tortilla and cake. Should I try it?
This is my stretched out hand...and a regular sized egg beside it.

WOW! Does the man own the ostrich? Are they as common in Paraguay as Argentina?

The man who gave it to us works on a farm that has ostriches. The zoo we were at the other day at Yacyreta also had about 20 of them. I think that they are pretty common.

That's HUGE!
How fresh was it when Oscar got it? At this point, I don't think I'd open it if I were you, unless you have a couple of cans of air spray. Try to get a fresh one and use it instead.
Remind the boys that they shouldn't use it as a soccer ball, or any other kind to toss back and forth.Phewww if they do!

You could always hard boil it, then open it. At least it won't run all over the place when you crack it.

It reminds me of the goose egg from Charlotte's Web that Tempelton the rat had been hording. When it finally broke open, they couldn't get rid of the smell. (Can you tell what we've been watching for the past few weeks? :)
