Happy Birthday, Martha
This is a little blog about my sister, Martha, for HER day. She is an encourager. She usually wants others to be happy and goes out of her way to do things and tell them things that make them feel good and that makes HER feel good as well. So I want to encourage her as I tell you more about her. Anyone can tell that she loves her family. She dedicates time...all her time...to them. One by one she deals with each kid's case as it comes up. She cooks and bakes what her husband likes, even though she wants to spice up the food just like a Schley. She loves the Lord and it shows in faith and her works. She is a special sister and today is a day we remember...HER! Happy Birthday, Mar!

Awww. Thanks, Kar! This was so nice. I especially appreciate you acknowledging that I cook for my husband instead of spicing things up. It's not an easy thing for me to cook so bland, but I love my husband and he's worth bland food because I can always sit with a bottle of cayanne next to my plate. :) Thanks for your birthday note for me!
I'm glad you payed tribute to Martha, Karen. Some people are essential to our lives but they stay kind of in the background rather than taking full stage. They are so special that only those who are privileged to serve with them or grow up with them get to know how much they add to the lives of others. I have a sister like that, too! So here's to our sisters! Martha and Cynthia!
Happy birthday!
Question about the spicy food--was ours that spicy growing up, or did we just marry (and produce) people who like food considerably more mild than average? Or did we come into these taste buds as adults?
I remember Grandma Schley taking a baggie of Cayanne(?)pepper out of her purse to add to her food. I think we got it from grandma S.
My mother would make Spanish rice so hot that it would make your nose run- and then add some tabasco sauce to hers. She like her food hot- but my father didn't so she always added her own "Spicey" flavorings afterward.
So, Mar, do you want a bottle of Tabasco for your purse? Just kidding.
Grandma S. really did pour on the hot sauce as long as I knew her. I don't use as much "hot" as I used to, that's for sure. Maybe taste buds change as they get older. You guys all taught your dad how good coffee was, so maybe it's a learned thing, too.
Hope your birthay weekend was a good one this year.
I remember Mom making short-cut chili sauce in two batches ... one for "us" (which meant Mom) and one for Grandma Schley which was nice and hot. Mom, you even said one time that you were afraid Grandma was going to burn out her stomach because she liked things so hot. I take after her. :)
heidiannie, thank you for your kind words as well. As a words-of-affirmation person, those comments mean a lot to me!
