1st place poem in Wayne County Schools Literary Contest 1986
written by Karen Schley from Chippewa High School,
Sculptor of vessels,
Creator of my soul,
Mold me, suberb Potter,
into the very image that
only Your omnipotent hands
can cast.
Reconstruct the weakness
in the walls
of my thoughts and attitudes.
Place me back into the center
of Your wheel of life.
Fire the numerous impurities
out of my delicate structure
so that I may be
a pure element of
Your esteemed design.
I found this...after 22 years! I thought it was kind of cute. I still have the trophy.

Nice! I don't remember you writing this or winning a contest. I'm glad you found it all this time later.
And you got a trophy! I LOVE to get awards because they reinforce the idea that I did good. Karen- you did good- and the prayer/poem still speaks from your heart!
Where in the world did you find this?! It's such a deep poem to be written by an 18 year old high school senior! Thanks for sharing it.
Great poem!
You take after your Grandma Helen with your great poetry!
i love this, especially because this is what i do :) miss you so much....
Karen, I've thought of this poem often. I always thought it had such a deep thoughts for a high school kid! I loved it even more when you decided to dedicate your life to the Lord in an entirely different country, lifestyle, and service not like you grew up with. I love reading it. I'm glad you kept it. I might even have a copy in my dresser drawer. Thanks for putting it here to read again.
I think I wrote it when I was taking all those ceramic classes with Mrs. Robertson. She made me do-and re-do the clay so many times so that it wouldn't explode in the kiln. Yes, this Potter has worked on the walls, put me back in the center of the wheel time and time again...AND I have been through the kiln MILLIONS of times! I hope something nice is coming out of all this! (hahaha)
You sure seem to have a lot of Gram's genes! Deep thoughts and the ability to express them. Keep it up! Some day when you're 93 you might even have your poems published in a book like Gram did! Love you.
