A different setting

Pastor Dario, Marlene and family
Yesterday was Pastor's Day (a celebration for our Pastors in the Christian community of Paraguay). We had special numbers in Chapel (at school) and a different program for Pastor Baldo. The principal asked the students to bring non-perishable foods for a gift. Wow! Each kid brought a bag or two of something from the grocery story and there was at least a cartful or two of neat groceries. The kids were so excited to see their decorated gift boxes full of goodies. It was a VERY useful gift! We are thankful for the spiritual work that Pastor Baldo is doing with the teachers, students and parents.
Our church offered Pastors Pedro, Oscar and Dario (and their wives) a night out with a dinner at a Brazilian Churrasquería. We went early (at 7:45 pm) and were the 1st in the restaurant. The restaurant started filling up two hours later when we were about to leave. People eat VERY LATE in Paraguay.
A Brazilian Churrasquería has a salad/pasta buffet and the waiters come around many times to each table offering different cuts of barbequed beef, chicken, pork or sausages. They keep coming until you are extremely stuffed and politely ask them not to come back. Then, there is a dessert buffet with a very wide variety of sweets to choose from.
Once again we met up with the famous! Hahaha! Pastor Dario's wife, Marlene, looked up and said, "There's Chilavert, I went to school with him!" Chilavert is Paraguay's famous goalie in soccer. He is very popular in South America and maybe some of you soccer fans have heard of him also. Anyway, (this is something my mom would do...) Marlene went to tell him "hi" and he came over to our table, shook our hands, gave an autograph to Marlene for her kids and invited them over for an "asado" (barbeque). That was kind of fun...to meet a sports celebrity.
It was an enjoyable night out...no kids, good fellowship and bonding, especially important for keeping the unity in the different responsabilities we all have at church.

I'm glad you got to have a night out. You certainly deserve it! Love, Lilly

I couldN't help but laugh, Karen-"...this is something my mom would do" ... and think of our lunch at the Post House when she wanted you to say "HI" to our waiter and introduce yourself as her daughter because she worked with his fiance.
You are definitely more Schley than your mother- we don't have the best networking skill. It sounds like a great meal and a good time!

Oh, I read the other post first. How cool to meet him--and your pictures made me homesick for all my Paraguayan friends...

I haven't seen Marlene and Mary for soooooo long ... 10 years to be exact! I can't believe how much Don has grown, and Mary's kids, too! It was good to see them again! Thanks, too, for the memories of a churrasqueria! Just found out there's one in Kitchener, now! Woohoo! We'll have to try it out sometime, but it doesn't open until past our bedtime (just kidding).

Nice to see the families' pictures. And it really IS fun to talk to someone. I could say that I'm pretty good friends now with Ben (Gleaon) since he and Kellly (who works in the Kids 1st office) are the Methodist church's custodians. We see him quite often around there when we're at work. I think I got that trait from Grandpa P since he had so much fun talking to people.
