Once again, the pops and bangs remind us of the holiday season in Paraguay. Little firecrackers (and BIG..the dangerous, illegal in US, ones) are popping all day long as soon as children wake up in the morning and until they go to sleep at night. They put them in bottles to make them sound big and deep. They put them onto long poles to make them shoot higher. They light them, they scream, they run, dogs bark, etc. It's the Christmas blast!
No jingle bells in Paraguay, just bangs and noise. People are happy. It's Christmas! Paraguay is a religious country. It is the birth of our Savior! Let's CELEBRATE! How? Making a joyful NOISE!
CHRIST, THE SAVIOR, IS BORN!

Wow, sure sounds similar to here. Our neighbors have been celebrating nearly every night since the beginning of the month. Our fireworks here, also, aren't imported from the US - those are too little and too quiet.
God rest ye merry!
Selamat Hari Natal
It's too cold to set off fireworks around here! Maybe that's why we don't have them and you guys do!
I remember both in Florida and SoCal how at Christmas and New Year's the big thing was to go out and shoot a gun straight up in the air (a tradition from south of the border) -- YIKES! And yep, there was usually a news story within a day or two about an accidental shooting from a falling bullet....
